Why we do, what we do

400 million people in need of care

Our society is getting older and older. This is nothing new. Today, almost 800 million people worldwide are over 65 years old. By the end of the century, this number will increase to 2.5 billion - and the share of people over 65 will jump from 9% to 23%. This is often referred to by experts as "population ageing".

One reason for this is our increasing life expectancy. But as life expectancy increases, so does the number of people who need support in old age to master everyday life with dignity. Already today, more than 400 million people worldwide need care.

6 million skilled workers are missing...

... according to the WHO in care worldwide. Another 4.7 million will retire in the next 10 years. About 80% of the remaining care workers say they will quit before retirement, and new carers are very hard to come by.

This is mainly due to the poor working conditions, where stress and burnout are part of everyday life. This will get worse in the coming years, as there will be less carers for an increasing number of people that need care.

Why we need to care

When you consider these numbers, it is clear that care will become a part of our lives - whether we like it or not. Whether grandma and grandpa are cared for by a domiciliary care provider, a great aunt who is placed in a care home, or our parents and us - we need to care.

We urgently need solutions to prevent this huge problem from becoming any worse.

"Our vision: a world, in which we look forward to growing old."

Better care, together

Elena Heller, Michele Gianella-Borradori, and Martin Jäger founded nooa in 2019 to improve working conditions for caregivers.

What started small has grown into a medium-sized company focused on empowering our customers to improve the lives of clients and staff.

At nooa, one thing is especially important: to delight customers with immediate value.

Because this is the only way to strengthen care for the challenges of the future.
